Sport fishing may not be the first thing you think about when you are planning a vacation to Costa Rica. However, it’s actually one of the best places in the world for fishing! This is always a fantastic way to spend a relaxing and exciting day on the water.

There are great opportunities for fishing in many parts of the country! The Pacific Ocean, especially in Northern Guanacaste and in the Central Pacific area, is amazing for fishing Marlin, Sailfish, Roosterfish and more. You’ll also find some excellent spots for this in the South Pacific, especially near Golfito.

Lake Arenal is the most popular spot for freshwater fishing. You can enjoy beautiful views of the rainforest and the impressive Arenal Volcano (on a clear day), and try to catch some Guapotes (Rainbow Bass).

Finally, you could head towards the Caribbean coast for Tarpon sport fishing. The river mouths in the Northern Caribbean are amazing for this!
